Ireland's Coolest Farmer

Description

Jack Wickham is a 16-year-old from County Wexford, Ireland, living life to the fullest with cerebral palsy. Energetic, determined, and full of heart, Jack never lets anything hold him back. When he’s not at school, you’ll find him outdoors on his uncle and grandfather’s farm just across the road from his house—his favourite place to be. He especially loves riding in the tractor and helping out with the daily work.

But Jack’s story doesn’t end there.

Moved by the challenges Jack faced during school outings—where wheelchair access was often limited—his classmates at Ramsgrange Community School decided to take action. Inspired by Jack’s resilience and positive spirit, the Transition Year students designed and built a lightweight, portable wheelchair ramp. They named it “Jack It Up”—a tribute to Jack and a clever play on words.

Their innovation didn’t go unnoticed: the project went on to win an enterprise innovation award, highlighting the power of empathy, creativity, and teamwork.

This is a story of friendship, determination, and the impact one young man can have on those around him.
